Welcome to Wake Forest University Choirs!
Wake's Music Department is pleased to embrace the vibrant and encompassing Pro Humanitate mission exhibited by the thousands of students, faculty, and staff on the Wake Forest University campus. The WFU website notes:
"Our motto, Pro Humanitate (For Humanity), is a calling to use our knowledge, talents and compassion to better the lives of others. It’s about...the greater meaning of what it means to be human. It can mean donating time and resources to our communities or simply a lifelong commitment to pursuing our best self."
The choral art, in particular, gives voice to the spirit and intent of Wake Forest's motto in a number of significant ways. Participation in choir helps students to express their individual humanity in a communicative, honest, and inspiring manner. Whether students are singing a Renaissance madrigal, a Baroque cantata, a vocal jazz chart, or a pop ballad-the teamwork, listening skills, and sensitivity to nuance challenge the mind and touch the soul. Choral music makes an indelible impression and an impact on lives that will not be forgotten.
Students who participate in the choirs find an immediate, supportive family amongst their fellow choir members; the choral environment becomes a home away from home. Choral rehearsals, retreats, concerts, and tours allow the students to bond with their peers in ways only those kinds of experiences can engender. The nurturing aspect of the collaborative choral art form becomes for the students a coveted respite from daily stress and anxiety.
We want you to experience for yourself the embodiment of Wake's Pro Humanitate mission through participation in one of the Music Department's choral ensembles. Join us! Sign up for an audition today!
